City Animals
HOMME DC announces City Animals, an exhibition of new paintings by artist Emon Surakitkoson and curated by Amy Lokoff. This body of work examines the enduring bond between humans and animals amid the constructed barriers of city life.

Surakitkoson will donate 20% of the sales price of any original artwork featured and sold during the City Animals Exhibition to benefit World Wildlife Fund (WWF)'s Greater Mekong Program. Guests are also encouraged to donate directly to WWF here.
Known for her striking black-and-white abstract works created with handmade brushes, Surakitkoson takes a dramatic turn with City Animals, her first figurative series. These large-scale works (ranging from four to six feet tall) depict portraits of wildlife and landscapes she encountered during her youth in rural Thailand, including elephants, cattle, and primates. While Surakitkoson’s signature mark-making techniques remain intact, the introduction of red and navy blue accents—nods to Thailand’s national flag—infuses the pieces with deeper personal significance.

City Animals also includes an installation of six wood panels by local artists exploring the exhibition's themes through diverse styles and techniques. The D.C. and Maryland-based artists—Death by Narwhals, Elizabeth Graeber, Golden Rabbit Silent Monkey, Shyama Kuver, Red Swan, and Kelly Towles—offer fresh perspectives on the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and nature.
